Impact Assessment: Quovita

Combining a rapid thematic approach and quantitative analysis, Apollo produced an impact report for a provider of innovative care models supporting self-employed carers delivering in-home care services in rural areas of the UK.

Apollo Health Innovations conducted an independent impact evaluation of Quovita, an organisation providing innovative care models supporting self-employed social carers delivering services to residents in rural areas of the UK. The evaluation was commissioned by South West Academic Health Science Network (SW AHSN), as a part of a broader programme identifying and transmitting innovative approaches that aim to improve the health and well-being of people disproportionately affected by COVID-19.

Approach

1. An initial desk review and documentary analysis
2. Discussions with the Quovita management team to gain a better understanding of the services
3. Qualitative semi-structured interviews with the service-users and micro-provider
4. A survey with free-text responses
5. Analysis of the qualitative data using a rapid thematic approach
6. Analysis of the quantitative service usage data using standard descriptive statistical techniques

Outcome

All people receiving in-home care involved in the evaluation carried out by Apollo were satisfied with the quality of care delivered by the self-employed staff and the support received from Quovita. Continuity of care, person-centred care, professionalism and reliability were among the key reasons for Quovita’s high-rating services. The self-employed carers reported positive results of following the Quovita model and support, such as a decent salary, flexible schedule, and nurturing conditions necessary for personal development.

Impact

The impact assessment enabled Quovita to support better their self-employed carers and the recipients of their services, namely people receiving in-home care. Reflecting on past achievements as part of this impact report has also helped Quovita structure future strategic ambitions in relation to the ongoing evaluation and quality improvement of the service.
